New City Kids

The philosophy behind New City Kids is that every child is valuable, and by providing them with a purpose-driven, supportive environment they have an opportunity to create a positive, lasting change in their lives.

The After School Center is the heart of New City Kids, and is open to children in 1st – 8th grade. They provide an afternoon of worship, tutoring and homework assistance, and arts enrichment classes. But this after school program comes with a twist – the tutors and instructors are members of New City Kids Teen Life Internship program.

The Teen Life Internship is a year-long, paid, part-time position that places a strong emphasis on leadership development. Over the course of the program, teens receive college readiness support, tutoring, college visits, and one-on-one mentoring with a New City staff member. Many of the teens participated in the After School Center, and were inspired to apply for the internship by one of their former instructors. Of the 60 teens who have participated in the program, every single one has gone on to college, with some choosing to pursue education or social work as a result of participating in New City Kids.
